“ONE child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.” It was through the inspiration of these words by rights activist, Malala Yousafzai, that Amanzimtoti High School (AHS) celebrated World Book Day.
The day is observed on April 23 but with the date falling on a Sunday this year, the school commemorated it on April 24.
In a statement, the school said Malala’s profound words resonated with everyone at the school as they celebrated the magical power of books.
“Our English department celebrated World Book Day by getting our learners involved in designing bookmarks and enjoying the sheer pleasure of reading amidst our beautiful surroundings. There is immense value in reading and the power of words. The main aim of our reading programme and our AHS Book Club is to nurture a culture of reading and changing the mindset of our readers – one book at a time,” read the statement.
The school made a call for everyone to work together in helping all children get into the habit of reading.
