Kingsburgh Welfare hosts successful open day

Visitors were not only briefed about the aims and objectives of the charity organisation but also the role they can play in helping others.

STAFF, volunteers and supporters of the Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare had fun, lots of laughs and trips down memory lane at its open day recently.

On top of the social get-together, the welfare’s social worker, Sandra Govender, discussed the aims and objectives of welfare and how the community can benefit and contribute to the life of the organisation.

The welfare’s chairperson, Jenny Smith, thanked all those who visited the office, and made the morning a success. “As a charity organisation, we rely on the support of friends and the community to enable us to assist those in need,” she said.

As a means of generating an income, the welfare also runs a charity shop. Govender said the shop is two-fold, as it helps them raise funds for families and projects while also creating an income for unemployed people who buy and resell the items. They are currently in urgent need of donations.

Their most sought-after items include bric-a-brac, gently worn clothes, furniture, electronics, unwanted gifts, jewellery, bedding, kitchenware, vintage items and books.

Donations can be dropped off at their charity shop at 2 Hall Road in Warner Beach, on weekdays (except Wednesdays) between 08:00 and 12:00. Collection can be arranged.
