Amanzimtoti Rugby Club’s U20 side makes a comeback

After more than a decade without an U20 side, the club was proud to see players on their home soil again.

THE Amanzimtoti Rugby Club was proud to have their U20s make a comeback on April 15, after a long absence of 12 years.

The club’s administrator, Sharon Zulch, said there had not been an U20s side due to a lack of interest among the youth, with most of them travelling to Durban clubs.

“Having an U20 side definitely gives the club depth, which will help it grow. We have dedicated, experienced coaches who will steer the players in the direction of growth,” she said.

There were two friendly games against University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) on the day. The U20s lost 36-5, and the seniors won 32-27 in the main game.

Zulch said it was incredible to see the U20 side back on their home soil, full of fire and vigour. “The day was magnificent – the support of the spectators on the deck and all around the field created a stadium-like atmosphere. Amanzimtoti always draws a crowd. It is truly incredible, and we are extremely grateful,” she said.

The team spirit was high, and all the players are excited for the season to start. “They can’t wait to go out and do what they love, with their motto, ‘One for all and all for one’,” said Zulch.
