Chief distances himself from land invasion

Inkosi Phathisizwe Luthuli briefed the media regarding the land invasion incident that happened within Mnini boundaries.

THE Inkosi (chief) of the Luthuli clan in Mnini, has assured businesses that trade in and around Umgababa that their interests in the area will be protected from those who want to loot their properties.

Inkosi Phathisizwe Luthuli said this in a media briefing that was held at the royal residence at Umnini today, April 22. The briefing was called by Luthuli after a tract of land near Winklespruit, belonging to Dube TradePort Corporation, was illegally invaded by people on April 16, who then proceeded to divide and allocate plots to themselves.

Luthuli said the invasions were not sanctioned by his office. “I distance myself from these criminal actions. As the Luthuli clan, we want businesses in this area to conduct their activities without fear,” he said.

In 1995, Luthuli forwarded a failed land claim for the very same piece of land.
