Protecting children during the holidays

Amanzimtoti police provide suggestions for keeping children safe during the school holidays and Easter long weekend, to prevent injuries and accidents.

WITH the school holidays in full swing and the Easter long weekend around the corner, the Amanzimtoti police remind parents that vigilance is key to protecting children.

Amanzimtoti police station’s communications officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy, said greater awareness of child safety can assist in preventing injuries and accidents.

“Although it’s not always easy for parents, children should never be left without adult supervision. Parents should aim at making sure they have fun activities to keep children entertained, so they will stay away from inappropriate behaviour that could lead to them being arrested, or worse, being victims of crime,” she said.

Some suggestions she provided for keeping children safe during the holidays include:

In case of an emergency, contact SAPS on 10111 or metro police on 031 361 0000. Alternatively, general emergencies can be reported by dialling 112 on a mobile device.
