Miss and Mr Umgababa 2023 crowned

The founder of the pageant, Mondli Zondo, says he uses the pageant to fight social ills in the area but also to promote local talent.

ON March 25, the third annual Miss and Mr Umgababa 2023 beauty pageant was held at Thusong Hall in Umgababa. The pageant is the brainchild of Mondli Zondo, and he said he uses it to promote talent in the area and to fight social ills.

Asanda Mlumbi was crowned Miss Umgababa 2023 and Gift Khomo walked away with the title of Mr Umgababa 2023. Despite starting late because of load-shedding, Zondo said the event was a success.

“Everything else went according to plan, and we thank all those who took part. The winners of different categories will now act as advocates and promote the importance of looking after yourself as a young person. They will do this by visiting schools and events to pass this message on because when young people hear from a person their age, they listen,” said Mondli. He added that it is his wish to see a Miss South Africa who hails from Umgababa.

Asanda was over the moon after being crowned and thanked her parents and her sisters for their support and encouragement.“I’d also like to thank Zondo, as the founder of this pageant, for helping me with all the knowledge and skills that are necessary for pageantry,” said Asanda.

Besides modelling, she is a full-time artist known as The Multi-Talented. She is a dancer, an actress, a singer, a rapper, a writer, and a poet.
