If the public would like to make a contribution to his last send-off, they can contact Hearts of Toti.

THE South Coast community received saddening news after it was announced that popular Baggies Beach painter, Collen Munthali, died on Saturday, March 18, after an illness.

Originally from Malawi, Collen had been battling ill health for a while since developing an abscess on his right thigh over the past two years. Braving the excruciating pain and the elements, he would always be found at Baggies Beach where he painted and sold his art.

The Hearts of Toti had provided some assistance to Collen, which included a monthly food hamper and transportation to and from the hospital for his leg treatment. Alta Erasmus of the Hearts of Toti said Collen’s health had suddenly taken a turn for the worse on Saturday, and he died en route to the clinic while being transported in a private car to the clinic.

Arrangements for his funeral have not been finalised, but contributions are welcome from the community. Contact the Hearts of Toti on 072 801 0746.
