Penny Pinchers donate to Khanya Hospice

The hospice is always looking for volunteers to assist with fundraising initiatives and for extra hands at their shop.

KHANYA Hospice received a donation of R1 640 from a collection drive held by the Penny Pinchers of KZN Caravan Club over the past year.

The hospice’s CEO, Neil McDonald, said the week started off on a great note as members of the club, Rose and Ronald King, handed over a much-needed monetary donation.

Penny Pinchers is a group of retired people who arrange three-week-long caravan camps per year for all to come along and enjoy good company. They travel from Richards Bay, down to Margate and inland.

“Over the past year, from their three outings, an amount of R1 640 was collected from their church services and donations. It was decided that this amount should be given to Khanya Hospice, to assist with the free palliative nursing care we offer,” said McDonald.

He added that as a registered non-governmental organisation, they have to do their own fundraising. “We rely on the goodwill and donations from kind people and companies to be able to do what we do. A big thank you to everyone who contributed,” said McDonald.

The hospice is always looking for volunteers to assist with fundraising efforts or at their hospice shops.

Alternatively, donations of unwanted, usable items can be dropped off at their charity shop at 400 Andrew Zondo Road, above Vikings Fish and Chips.
