PHOTOS: Community cleans up Winkle Beach

AfriForum Amanzimtoti says this beach has been neglected by eThekwini Municipality for far too long.

AFRIFORUM Amanzimtoti, along with those who aim to make a difference in the community, cleaned up Winklespruit Beach recently.

Bianca Dormehl of AfriForum Amanzimtoti, said Winkle Beach, known as the Valley, has been neglected by eThekwini Municipality for far too long.

“The beach, parking area and surrounds needed cleaning. We made the decision to host a clean-up and invited the community to join in the effort. Not only is it important for residents to get involved with keeping our town and beaches clean and tidy, but business owners, too. Clean beaches mean more visitors,” she said.

They were joined by Action SA, Tidy Towns Amanzimtoti, Kings Hardware who removed rubbish, Zirk Janssens of ZTC Renovations and his team, who cleaned and cut the overgrown grass, and Kuswag Skool learners, as well as members of the public.

“There were about 30 people. We want to thank everyone who gave their time and effort to come out and spend the day with us. I would just love it if more community members would get involved because together, we can do so much more,” said Dormehl.

She added that Zirk Janssens and his team are at the beach every day to cut, clean and remove overgrown grass and bush. This is at his own expense. To make a donation towards fuel and oil for his machines, contact 064 102 1428.
