The weekly market supports small businesses, uplifts the Toti CBD and town and raises funds for various non-profit organisations.

THERE was plenty to see and do at the family fun day and car show at The Square in the Amanzimtoti CBD recently, all in a bid to uplift the town and assist non-profit organisations.

The weekly New Time Market, organised by Wanderers Haven and Mug ‘n Dine, is to support small businesses, uplift the CBD and town, as well as help raise funds towards building a place of safety, called The Haven, for those in need.

There were about 35 stallholders selling items such as clothing, arts and crafts, toys, jewellery, food and drinks. The children had plenty of open space to run around. They also enjoyed the jungle gym, jumping castles, face-painting and free candy floss from Checo the clown.

Organiser and co-founder of Wanderers Haven, Sharon Swanepoel, said, “The Square is definitely getting more lively, with more people coming to realise that is it not dangerous anymore. We, as a community, can build it back up to an amazing space where parents come and relax, while the children play. We are also looking for schools, dog shows, modelling agencies, dance academies and so forth to come on board and host their events alongside the market.”

On top of the market was a car show to raise funds for Bobbi Bear and Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare, while promoting fun activities in The Square.

PT Alarms brought out some high-powered sports cars to add to the hype of the day. The show thrilled car enthusiasts with a sho(w) and shine, sound-off, park-off and glo(w)-off. Trophies were handed out to winners in each of the respective categories.

PT Alarm’s Dhevan Govindasamy said, “The four-wheel head turners stole the show, grabbing an armload of trophies all in the name of goodwill and fundraising for a cause. We are always keen to show support to the beloved Bobbi Bear.”

The markets take place every Saturday, from 09:00 to 15:00 and every last Friday of the month from 17:00 to 21:00.
