Community worker upskills the youth through baking

When Feziwe Gambo is not upskilling the youth, she can be found arranging and running clean-ups in the area.

CLOVER Mama Afrika’s Feziwe Gambo has been active in her community over the past few months, including upskilling the youth by teaching them how to bake.

Gambo is part of the Clover Mama Afrika project, which is a group of carefully selected women who act as pillars of strength in their communities.

She is known to inspire those around her through the meaningful connections she makes and holds with others. She also makes sure that there is always something happening at her centre, House-Kids Centre in Ezimbokodweni.

Over the past few months, she did some training with some of the youth and taught them how to bake cakes and decorate them, as well as how to bake biscuits.

“She always goes above and beyond for the members of her community, making sure they are learning something they can implement in their own lives, too, when they go home,” said professor Elain Vlok, Clover manager of Clover Mama Afrika Trust.

Gambo started the centre in 2010 when she was part of a church community project and saw far too many children under the age of four who were left unattended. She now cares for 357 children between the age of three months and seven years old at the centre. Her outreach programme also includes caring for 30 elderly members.

When she is not upskilling the youth, she can be found arranging and running clean-ups in the area.
