Toti Cricket Club’s first team secures another win

The team has showed consistency and will be looking to secure a place in the top six for the last part of the season.

DESPITE cancelled games and delays due to rainy weather conditions on January 29, Amanzimtoti Cricket Club’s (ACC) first team’s consistency resulted in yet another win.

On January 29, the ACC first team played against Chatsworth United on the Toti Oval. ACC won the toss and elected to bowl first after a delayed start due to morning rain and reduced overs.

Director and first-team coach, Frank Ferreira, said the new ball bowlers, once again, set the tone by building pressure, with both Robert Ackermann and Morgan Potgieter getting early wickets. They were backed up by JJ Fourie, who returned the best figures of the day, taking 4 wickets for 12 runs in a brilliant spell of bowling. Chatsworth United were bowled out for 115 runs.

He said that after the heavy rain over lunch and more time lost, the overs and target were revised to 98 needed from 33 overs.

“ACC kept their nerve after a shaky start and recovered from 17/2 to reach the target in the 19th over with Jarryd Michaux playing a very mature innings, ending on 55 not out. He was well-supported by Sagel Rajakumar with an unbeaten 24,” said Ferreira.

He added that the team is showing good consistency for the first team this season, winning three in a row, all with bonus points. “The team will be looking to secure a place in the top six for the last part of the season. The momentum is with us, and I can see the players growing in confidence,” said Ferreira.

The second women’s team and U13 games were called off due to unplayable pitches.

On January 28, ACC vets played at home against East Coast. They won the toss and sent East Coast in to bat. They scored 120 for 6 in their 20 overs, setting ACC a target of 121 to win.

With the ball, Bennie Benade took 4 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs. Johan van Niekerk continued his form with the bat with another 84 not out from just 34 deliveries. ACC got the runs in the 11th over, winning by 9 wickets and a bonus point.
