Electricity restored in Amanzimtoti

Ward 97 councillor André Beetge thanked the community policing forum, the neighbourhood watches and the community for supporting the electrical staff while conducting the repair.

POWER has been restored in Amanzimtoti after some areas experienced outages since Wednesday, January 18.

Ward 97 councillor André Beetge said two faults were located – one at Umdoni Road and another one at Lewis Drive. These caused outages in Beach Road, the surrounding node, as well as the Amanzimtoti Berea area. City electricians worked well into the night to re-energise the faulty cables.

“A word of appreciation goes out to our community police forum and neighbourhood watch structures for supplying a presence while electrical staff endeavour to get supply restored to Amanzimtoti. Officials also requested that we carry their appreciation to residents who brought them some refreshments while they were attending to the faults in challenging and exceptionally hot conditions,” said Beetge.

To minimise possibilities of trip-outs or damaged mini-substations, Beetge advised residents to switch off non-essential appliances during load-shedding, especially those that draw high currents, such as air-conditioning, pool pumps and others.

“In the event that a property has lost power outside of a scheduled shed, we, as councillors, will not know the reason nor are we usually appraised of the repair time, so residents are again encouraged to log a fault with the municipality on their WhatsApp line on 076 791 2449 or to email at electricity.faults@durban.gov.za,” he said.
