A compulsory change of uniform for Community Crime Prevention Organisation

The crime prevention organisation is appealing to the community for funds towards the costly change.

THE CCPO (Community Crime Prevention Organisation) is in the process of a compulsory change of uniform, and they appeal to the community for donations towards the costly process.

The grey camouflage is being phased out and replaced with a new black uniform. This will take place over a couple of months as it is an expensive process.

“This uniform change was not done by choice but rather forced on us. We are governed by the Private Security Industry Regulation Act, which recently brought in specifics regarding uniform changes. This includes no camouflage, badging, shades of blue and so forth. The main changes were to ensure that the private security companies could not be mistaken for the SAPS,” said CCPO’s chairperson Craig Upton.

Although they have been reluctant to change, as they did not want to lose their identity which the current uniforms give them, the new amendments could hold them liable to fines or imprisonment.

“We are merely informing our valued members that although you may see a uniform change, our dedicated staff, guards and committee are still the same dedicated people who are determined to fight and prevent crime by integrating all relevant role-players, thereby making our communities safer,” said Upton.

CCPO currently have 54 personnel that require these new uniforms. They, therefore, appeal to the community for any assistance they may be able to offer towards the financing of this change.

“We are planning to phase in these uniforms over a period of three months, where, during this period, both uniforms will be in use. However, I am optimistic that with the assistance of the community, we will be able to complete this change in a shorter timeframe,” said Upton.

Monetary donations can be made at the following banking details: First National Bank; CCPO; Account number: 62798763077; Galleria branch code: 220127; Reference: Uniforms.
