Amanzimtoti SPCA’s Ollie finds a forever home

The family said that once they were introduced to Ollie, they knew he would be the perfect pet companion.

AFTER a temporary stay at the Amanzimtoti SPCA, the SUN’s pet of the week, Ollie, was adopted into his forever home by the Mboyisa family.

In the SUN’s December 16 edition entitled Ollie needs a loving home, Amanzimtoti SPCA volunteer Stacey Wall reached out to the community in hopes of getting him adopted. She said he is a happy, friendly and smart dog, with so much love to give.

Cedric Mboyisa said this description of Ollie could not have been more true. “Our 16-year-old daughter has always wanted a pet companion, so we approached the SPCA and described our situation and needs. When they introduced us to Ollie, we knew he would be the perfect fit for our family,” said the proud dog dad.

Mboyisa described himself as a caring person with a genuine heart, who is always prepared to help those less fortunate, including animals.

He said adoption was the only option. “I believe everyone must spread love and opt to adopt an animal in need into an environment that is filled with love, safety and happiness,” said Mboyisa.

He said Ollie keeps his daughter company – he can sit on command and is highly energetic. “In such a short space of time, he has already become a huge part of our lives. We have also taken out pet insurance to ensure he is always safe and healthy,” said Mboyisa.

Amanzimtoti SPCA’s Michelle Hannan said they love seeing an animal go home to a wonderful family. “It often brings tears to our eyes, especially with dogs we have walked a journey with and seen transform. It’s a blessing and a privilege for us,” she said.

Hannan said adopting an animal does not only save a life, but it also blesses the new owner in many ways. “It can have both physical and emotional health benefits. For example, having an animal to play with or a dog to walk can help with physical fitness, resulting in reduced stress and better sleep,” she said.

Hannan added that adopting an animal is affordable, as they are sterilised and vaccinations are up to date. They have also been vetted to make sure they are not aggressive.
