Amanzimtoti riders win championship titles

Potgieter, of RMC Auto, was crowned the 2022 150cc Cup Champion and Rider of the Year.

JESSE Conci and Cayden Potgieter of Amanzimtoti were named championship winners in their respective motorcycle classes at the KZN Road Racing Club’s prize-giving on December 4.

Conci, of Helluvafast Motorcycles, was crowned the 2022 Super Production Champion. “He had quite the battle throughout the entire year and finished in what we all thought was second place for the year. However, race officials found a discrepancy before releasing the overall results, and Jesse was officially named the championship title winner,” said team admin manager Carmen Conci.

Jesse will be retiring from the two-wheel motorsport and plans on competing in Formula-M car racing next year. He said, “I am very grateful to be named champion. This year has been among the most challenging in all my years of racing, and to finish off my motorcycle racing career as champion is something I never expected.

Unfortunately, I will have to retire my motorcycle due to medical reasons but will be trying out the Formula-M car class next year. The support I received from our community has been immense; I cannot thank everyone enough.”

Potgieter, of RMC Auto, was crowned the 2022 150cc Cup Champion and Rider of the Year. This was his debut on a Honda CBR150, competing in the A-class, and he did not disappoint.

“The 14-year-old Amanzimtoti High School student came from a motorsport background and had a great year improving significantly as each race progressed. He not only won the 150cc Cup Championship but was also awarded Rider of the Year among the whole club of over one hundred members,” said Carmen.

She said there is no doubt that Potgieter will be making waves in his racing career, as the dedicated young man continues to make plans for the up-and-coming 2023 racing season.
