Portia (20) attended the International Arts Talent Showcase (IRTS) auditions in Durban in August which were open to models, actors, and dancers. Her modelling skills earned her a call back to go to Johannesburg in October where she auditioned in front of representatives from more than 20 international agencies.

“By God’s grace I got an international call back to go to the International Modelling and Talent Association (IMTA) convention which will be held in New York next year in June. I was so excited because my dream is starting to become a reality,” said Portia.

The IMTA convention is used by international modelling agencies to scout for fresh talent, and Portia hopes to be noticed and signed up by one of them.

She is asking the public for financial contribution towards her flight costs. Accommodation and other costs will be covered by IMTA.

Portia is doing her third year in shipping and logistics at the Maritime Business Institute and she started modelling in 2014. In 2019 she was crowned Miss Teen Tourism Globe International at a prestigious event held in the Philippines. She was also named Darling of the Press and Miss Nix Beauty at the same event.

Elsubie Verlinden who is IMTA’s regional director and producer of the IRTS said this opportunity will not only grant Portia exposure to top class agencies, but it will give he international skills that she can later use to empower her community.

“As the chairperson and CEO of the company that Portia will be travelling with, I can truly not wait to see the return of this amazing artist to South Africa and the numerous jobs that will be on the books,” said Elsubie.

To find out how to contribute towards Portia’s travel costs, call her on 078 842 0641. Further information about the International Arts Talent Showcase can be obtained in their website: www.itsartsafrica.co.za
