Another rabies case confirmed in Amanzimtoti

The state vet confirmed that the dog tested positive for rabies.

THE state vet has confirmed that the dog caught outside the pawn shops in Warner Beach by the Amanzimtoti SPCA on November 11, tested positive for rabies.

The dog was first brought to their attention roaming the testing grounds in Winklespruit. “We then received numerous calls that the dog was travelling north along Kingsway Road in Warner Beach. We caught the dog outside the pawn shops. The state vet confirmed that the dog tested positive for rabies,” said Amanzimtoti SPCA manger, Tracey Girling.

She said the dog attacked an elderly man outside the hairdressers next to the Caltex Garage.

“We had reports it had been in contact with several dogs en route. I appeal to members of the public to be very careful of strays and to rather notify the SPCA for assistance. We deal with rabies on a daily basis so we can recognise the symptoms straight away,” said Girling.

This incident comes after another dog was put down after it went on a rampage, biting two women (South Coast Sun- October 28)
