Mooi Hawens hosts frail-care course

Students receive a study guide and then undertake a 120-hour practical in the home, under supervision.

THE Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) recently hosted a ‘Provide Care for the Frail’ course at Mooi Hawens Residentia.

Every month, the old age home runs an ancillary healthcare course, and every three months, the SETA course. The courses have been hosted through the South Coast Nursing Training School for the past 12 years.

Mooi Hawens Residentia care manager Doreen Vosloo said the course sees students/ participants from as far as Gauteng and North West attend.

“The students enjoy the courses very much and gain knowledge on how to care for the elderly in their community,” she said.

They get a study guide with different subjects, which include anatomy, changes of the body with age, special equipment to use, as well as an introduction to First Aid. Vosloo said they also learn about the different abscesses you get, especially concerning the elderly.
