eThekwini re-opens southern beaches

Following the latest sample results, the eThekwini Municipality has re-opened most southern beaches with immediate effect.

ETHEKWINI Municipality have re-opened most southern beaches today, November 1, for bathing and watersport activity.

Ward 97 councillor Andre Beetge said, following receipt of the latest sample results, they are able to confirm that the following southern beaches are open with immediate effect:

Pipeline Beach
Amanzimtoti Main Beach
Warnadoone
Baggies (watersport activities)
Illovo
Karridene
Umgababa
Umkomaas

“While Winklespruit will, for now, remain closed for both bathing and watersport activities, we remain confident that various interventions could see this change within the next week,” said Beetge.

He said indications are that work scheduled on the Kingsway 2 pump station (Warner Beach) and Isundu Road will be complete by end of the week.

“Tankers are scheduled to assist with overflow at both the vandalised Ipahla pump stations, north of Pipeline, in anticipation of the replacement of control panels through supply chain processes,” he said.

Beach usage will remain subject to continued water-sampling results.
