Ward 97 committee elections coming up

All residents of the ward who are of good standing can be elected and stand for election.

THE ward committee elections for Ward 97 will be conducted on Sunday, October 23 in the Amanzimtoti Civic Centre’s supper room.

Ward councillor André Beetge said that all people participating will need to be verified as registered voters in Ward 97, and their names must appear on the latest voters’ roll.

They can be elected by an interest group to serve on the committee. Further to that, the nominee must not be indebted to the municipality for a period longer than three months, unless he or she can prove that arrangements for the settlement of the account have been made, and they must remain in good standing for the duration of the term of office.

The nominee should not be an employee of eThekwini Municipality, nor a community development worker or cadre/foot soldier appointed by any national or provincial government department.

They should not have been convicted after February 1997 of an offence for which he or she was sentenced to imprisonment without the option of a fine for a period of not less than 12 months.

The nominee should also not be a person of unsound mind who has been declared so by a competent court.
Bring along your green barcoded South African identity document or a valid temporary identity document of a SA identity card.

• Opening and explanation: 10:00 – 10:30
• Nomination process: 10:30 – 11:30
• Voting: 11:30 – 12:30
• Counting: 12:30 – 13:00
• Announcement of the results: 13:00 – 14:00
• Closure: 14:00
