Tidy Towns Amanzimtoti cleans up Warner Beach

The next clean-up will be by the open grass area opposite the Warner Beach train station on October 1, at 08:00.

ABOUT 50 supporters of Tidy Towns Amanzimtoti recently rallied together and cleaned up along Kingsway Road in Warner Beach.

“We’ve made a start on the hard cutting of the overgrowth and litter clean up. The clean up took much longer than expected. We were hoping to do the whole of Kingsway Road through Warner Beach but in reality the area has not been upkept for so many years that our clean up is not going to be overnight. We may need to have a couple of clean ups in smaller areas at a time,” said coordinator, Michelle Dunnett.

There was an atmosphere of excitement, hope and passion. Everyone, both young and old, did what they could. “I was blown away by everyone that was there, it made me so proud,” she said.

She chose to start the first clean-up in Warner Beach as the residents are extremely passionate about their suburb, schools and beaches. “I knew they wouldn’t hesitate to get stuck in, and they didn’t disappoint. I don’t live in Warners, but my heart does,” said Dunnett.

The aim was to try and cut back the overgrowth and clean up the verges, pick up litter and make the area pretty. “The goal is to do a huge once-off clean up and from there, through the sponsorship and donations of local businesses, maintain the verges every month so it doesn’t slip back,” said Dunnett.

She thanked every single person who pitched in to help with their brooms, spades, rakes and brush cutters as well as businesses who donated water, gave monetary donations and who have pledged sponsorship.

Their next clean-up will be by the open grass area opposite the Warner Beach train station on October 1 at 08:00.
