Westville Boys’ High joins clean-up at Pipeline Beach

One of the boys from the school, who lives in Amanzimtoti, nominated Clean Surf Project as an organisation to partner with.

WESTVILLE Boys’ High School joined Clean Surf Project’s clean sweep at Pipeline Beach in Amanzimtoti on August 30, where a total of 154 refuse bags were collected.

“A round of applause to 30 learners and two educators from Westville Boys’ High School for collecting more than 100 refuse bags as well as an incredible amount of glass bottles at the parking and braai area. Community service at its best,” said Clean Surf Project’s founder Denzil van der Westhuizen.

“Every year, our Grade 10s embark on a three-day community service programme. This year, we had 260 boys participate. I coordinated the programme, and together with an amazing team of staff and incredible boys, we were able to serve many different organisations,” said the school’s Nicole Kalicharan.

The school engaged with Clean Surf Project this year after a learner who lives in the area nominated them as an organisation to work with.

“We are also very aware of the impact that the recent flooding has had on our beaches, and we wanted to do what we could to contribute to the beach clean-up. We are very grateful for the opportunity to partner with Clean Surf who are doing an amazing job helping keep our coastlines clean,” said Kalicharan.
