The programme allowed women to share their knowledge, as well as display and sell their work at the market day.

THE Back 2 Basics Community Development NPO hosted their annual women empowerment programme in commemoration of Women’s Month in August.

The programmes are aimed at empowering women in the eThekwini south communities as well as serve as facilitators for economic motivation.

There were food stalls, clothing items, fresh vegetables and tradition isiZulu beaded jewellery. A team of five organisations based in the eThekwini south region came together in order to celebrate and empower women in the communities in which they serve.

“The core purpose for this event was to empower women within our communities as well as instill confidence in first time entrepreneurs, especially our graduated students at Back 2 Basics who have now obtained a skill from the centre, but lack the confidence to go out there and utilise that skill.

Our aim was to give them that boost of confidence for them to see that they can do this themselves and have all the power within them to become business owners,” said chairperson of Back 2 Basics Community Development, Lindelwa Linda.
