Robbery suspects arrested in Umgababa

A business in the Amahlongwa area near Scottburgh was the victim of a robbery of cash and cigarettes, among other goods.

FIVE men were arrested in Umgababa, on January 5, for crimes committed earlier that day which included armed robbery and attempted murder. In a statement, ET Rapid Response said the crimes were committed in Amahlongwa near Scottburgh.

“Information was received by Bravo Six Security and Umkomaas police regarding the possible direction of occupants in a silver Volkswagen Polo who had allegedly committed an armed robbery at a business where two victims were also severely stabbed. The business staff were robbed of cash, cigarettes and other goods,” read the statement.

After following the direction where the car went, the ET Rapid Response Tactical Response Team and the Umzinto SAPS K9 Unit intercepted it in the Umgababa area.

“Two unlicensed firearms, ammunition, knives and a crowbar were recovered, including items that were taken in the robbery. Thank you to all teams involved,” it said.

The stab victims were rushed to hospital for medical attention. The men were further charged with unlawful possession of unlicensed firearms and unlawful possession of unlicensed ammunition.
