Man arrested for illegal gun possession

The police were acting on information of an individual in possession of an unlicensed firearm near Folweni.

ON SEPTEMBER 25, officers of the metro police’s specialised unit conducted an intelligence-driven operation in Dodoza Reserve near Folweni.

Metro police spokesperson Boysie Zungu said the unit was acting on information regarding an individual in possession of an unlicensed firearm, possibly connected to a serious crime.

“During the operation at 23:30, a suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He was promptly arrested and detained. Recovered exhibits included a 9mm pistol and 20 live rounds of ammunition,” said Zungu.

The suspect has undergone profiling, and further investigation will be conducted to link him to other ongoing cases. He has appeared in court and was remanded in custody pending the investigation.
