Planned electricity upgrades to impact services in eThekwini

The upgrades will disrupt electricity and communication services, so residents are urged to top up their prepaid meters ahead of the downtime.

ETHEKWINI Municipality has advised residents of planned electricity upgrades that will affect all communication services for the Electricity Unit.

The outage will affect the prepaid electricity vending system, the eThekwini Mobile App, the Contact Centre, and the online fault-logging system.

This interruption is scheduled to begin at 22:00 on Friday, September 20, and is expected to last until 16:00 on Sunday, September 22.

In a statement, eThekwini said that during this time, residents will not be able to access the usual channels for topping up prepaid electricity meters or reporting faults. To mitigate the inconvenience, residents are strongly encouraged to top up their prepaid electricity meters in advance of the scheduled maintenance.

For those needing to log electricity faults during the outage, assistance will still be available via the Electricity WhatsApp Chatbot at 076 791 2449.
