THE Amanzimtoti Child and Family Welfare Society (ACFWS) has been a cornerstone of child protection and family support for 77 years, serving Amanzimtoti and its surrounding areas. As a dedicated non-profit organisation, ACFWS focuses on strengthening the fabric of family and community life through a range of developmental programmes.

According to Hlengiwe Lushaba, the ACFWS supervisor, these programmes include food relief, poverty alleviation, income generation, skills development and various community development initiatives.
“Our services encompass foster-care screening, training and the finalisation of children’s court inquiries as well as the supervision of foster-care placements. We are also involved in investigating cases of child abuse, neglect, exploitation and abandonment,” explained Hlengiwe.
In addition to these services, ACFWS supports family reunifications, provides protective care for children and offers statutory services. The organisation also helps manage loss and bereavement for children, families and the broader community.
“We assist foster parents in managing their extended roles and help parents with permanency planning for their children,” she said.
To support its operations, ACFWS relies not only on donations but also on the proceeds from its thrift shop. The shop, which is crucial for generating alternative income, is in urgent need of both financial contributions and material donations. The thrift shop is open Monday through Friday, from 08:00 to 15:00, and offers a range of household items and adult clothing. The organisation welcomes any donations to sustain its shop and, consequently, its vital services.
