AS September unfolds, several driver’s licence testing centres (DLTCs) and motor licensing offices across the region are extending their hours over the weekends to accommodate the public’s needs.

Below is a comprehensive guide to the weekend schedules and services offered at these facilities throughout the month.
Driver’s Licence Testing Centres (DLTCs)
Rossburgh DLTC
- Open: September 7–8, 14–15, 21–22, 28–29
- Hours: 07:30–13:30
- Services: Renewal of driver’s licences, PrDP application (new applications and renewals) and issuance, collection of driver’s licence cards
- Note: No bookings for Learner’s and driver’s licence tests
- Payments: Card payments only (Master or Visa).
Municipality-run DLTCs
Winklespruit DLTC
- Open: September 7, 14, 21, 28
- Hours: 07:00–13:00
- Services: All driver’s licence-related transactions
- Bookings: Email Winkles.Testcentre@durban.gov.za for appointments
Pinetown/Mariannhill DLTC
- Open: September 7–8, 14–15, 21–22, 28–29
- Hours: 07:30–13:30
- Services: Driver’s and PRDP licence renewals, collection of driver’s licences
- Note: No bookings for learners and driving licences on weekends
- Payments: Card payments only (Master or Visa)
Ray Nkonyeni (Port Shepstone) DLTC
- Open: September 7, 14, 21, 28
- Hours: 8:00 – 12:00
- Services: All services related to driver’s/learner’s licences, excluding tests. Sixty numbers will be issued each Saturday. No preference will be given to pensioners, but consideration will be given for the frail and physically challenged.
- Note: The Motor Vehicle Licencing and Registration Office will not be open on weekends.
Verulam DLTC
- Open: September 7, 14, 21, 28
- Hours: 07:00–13:00
- Services: All driver’s licence-related transactions
- Bookings: Email Verulam.Teststation@durban.gov.za for appointments
Motor Vehicle Licensing Offices
Umbilo Motor Licensing Office
- Open: September 28–29
- Hours: 08:00–13:00
- Services: All motor vehicle licence transactions.
Durban Motor Licensing Office

Members of the public are advised that driver’s licence testing centres offer services related to driver’s licences, such as bookings for learner and driver tests, testing, renewal of driver’s licences, applications for and renewals of PrDPs, and collection of driver’s licence cards. They do not offer motor vehicle licensing services unless otherwise stated.
Documents required for processing driver’s licence renewal applications
- Identity Document/Smart Card and a copy thereof
- 2 ID-sized black-and-white or colour photographs
- R250 for the issue of a driver’s licence. (Please note that provincial offices only accept card payments.)
- R90 for a temporary driver’s licence and one additional ID-sized black-and-white or colour photograph. (Please note that provincial offices only accept card payments.)
- An eye test certificate from an optometrist is preferred and must not be older than three months.
The following should be noted regarding proof of residence:
- It must not be older than 3 months.
- It must clearly state the physical address, (eg, a bank statement or store account).
- If the applicant is residing with parents, a letter from the parent accompanied by the proof of residence is required.
