According to an SAWS statement, strong southerly to south-westerly wind gusts of up to 70-80 km/h are being experienced between Port Edward and Richards Bay and are expected to extend further to Kosi Bay. These strong winds could lead to localised disruption to beachfront activities, potential damage to homes and temporary structures, and challenges for small boats out at sea, which may take on water or capsize.

Amanzimtoti and the immediate surrounding areas fall within the area that has been issued with a Category 4 yellow warning.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs also advised residents to secure their homes and belongings.

“Small boat owners should avoid going out to sea, and beachgoers are urged to stay away from the water during this period. Our disaster management teams are on high alert and will continue to monitor the situation closely,” it said.
