Talent shines at Kingsburgh Lions Club fundraiser

The audience witnessed an array of performances by local singers and dancers. The community will enjoy the benefits of the proceeds of the show in future projects.

THE Kingsburgh Lions Club held a successful community variety show at St Mary’s Church Hall on July 20, in an effort to raise funds for community projects.

The line-up of talented artists included Kathleen Venner, Rob Rodell, Danae Erian, Toti Hillbillies Line Dancing team, Elvis Sunshine, Snoh Sibonda, Farmer Dax and a fitness session by an 80-year-old. The guests thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and even sang and danced along to the performances.

The club’s Tony Marron said they were delighted with the response, both from the artists and dancers who freely gave up their time to rehearse and to perform on the day, and with the audience, for their support in buying tickets and raffle tickets.

All proceeds are put into the project bank account, and every cent is spent on community projects.

“These include providing subsidised spectacles and hearing aids to those who can’t afford them, food drives, youth programmes, environmental clean-ups, support for the elderly and disabled as well as providing Christmas boxes in December for hundreds of children throughout our area,” he said.

Marron added that this year, the club is being sponsored by local author, Duncan du Bois. “He is letting the club sell his latest novel, Liaisons, a historical fictional drama based on families living in our area during the 1800s. The club is selling it at a discounted price of R140. The book is also available at all our public fundraising events,” he said.
