Operation Bobbi Bear receives donation from padel club

Children being cared for at Bobbi Bear not only received sport equipment but will get to enjoy a day out at the Virgin Active Padel Club.

VIRGIN Active Padel Club donated sporting equipment and other goodies to Operation Bobbi Bear on July 15.

Jade Jacobs, the KZN regional manager, said she and her team, on behalf of the Gateway-based club, handed over shoes, clothing, rackets, balls and non-perishable food.

Since Youth Day, members were encouraged to bring in items for the children’s home. She chose Operation Bobbi Bear as the beneficiary due to its excellent work for vulnerable and abused children.

“As an Amanzimtoti resident, the organisation is also close to my heart. There are many children’s homes, but few do what they do. They told me they struggle with donations, so my goal this year is to make them the beneficiary of our corporate social initiatives,” she said.

This is the first padel club in KZN, with 13 in the country already. In line with the theme of staying active, donating sporting equipment was a natural choice. Jacobs has also offered the children a day trip to the club for a fun-filled padel experience.

“We want to host a children’s clinic to let them try the sport and enjoy some pizza afterwards,” she said.

Eureka Olivier, director of Operation Bobbi Bear, expressed gratitude for the generous donation.

“The children will love a day out. With the work we do, dealing with rape and abuse, sport is one of the most important things for a child who has gone through any form of trauma. We also encourage them to participate in sports at school. We are so grateful and excited,” she said.
