eThekwini Municipality announces planned water restriction

The municipality have warned residents with a new date for a planned water restriction after their initial one, planned for July 23, never took place.

THE eThekwini Municipality has announced a planned water restriction scheduled for July 25, from 08:00 to 16:00, following a statement issued by the city’s Water and Sanitation Unit.

The restriction is necessary for uMngeni-uThukela Water (UWW) to assess work conditions in preparation for their major shutdown planned for August.

Affected areas include:

Central reservoirs
Isipingo Beach, Isipingo Hills, Isipingo Rail, Orient Hills, Prospecton Industrial, Malaba Hills, Reunion, Ezimbokodweni, Lotus Park, Malagazi, Malukazi and the Old Durban Airport.

South reservoirs:
African Explosives and Chemical Industries (AECI), Ezimbokodweni, South Gate Industrial Park, Athlone Park, Amanzimtoti CBD, Almond Road, Kingsburgh, Lower Illovo, Doonside, Illovo Beach, Panaroma Park, Umgababa, Mgobhozini, KwaSoni, Mashiwase, Nkwali, Lovu, Bhekulwandle, Kwamakhutha, Fakazi, Ohlongeni, Ekuphileni, Adams Mission and Umnini.

This comes on the heels of a previously planned restriction initially set to take place on July 23.

The City’s Water and Sanitation Unit emphasised the importance of this restriction to ensure that all necessary assessments and preparations can be completed efficiently and effectively ahead of the major shutdown.

The municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused. For further information regarding water supply, residents can download the eThekwini Municipality mobile app to log faults, send a WhatsApp message to 073 1483 477, call the toll-free number at 080 311 1111, or email Eservices@durban.gov.za.
