Planned water outage to affect Amanzimtoti and surrounds

Areas between the Old Durban Airport and Illovo Beach will have interrupted water supply tomorrow, July 23, from 08:00 to 16:00.

THE public is informed of water restrictions for those who receive water from reservoirs that are supplied through the Wiggins Treatment Water Works Gravity System. The restrictions are scheduled to take place on Tuesday (July 23) from 08:00 to 16:00.

According to a statement by eThekwini Municipality, the City’s water and sanitation unit will close its valves in order for uMngeni-uThukela Water (UWW) to assess work conditions in preparation for their major shutdown in August. This shutdown is to replace 1 200mm diameter meters on the gravity bulk pipeline.

“For this assessment to be undertaken by UWW, the City’s valves will be closed, and the scour will then be opened to drain out water from the pipeline. This will be done to assess how much water is passing in order to determine if the contractor can replace meters under safe conditions,” it read.

This work forms part of measures to curb water losses and to improve water supply to reservoirs supplied through the Wiggins Treatment Water Works Gravity System.

The public is urged to reduce their consumption leading up to the shutdown and post the shutdown. “The municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused,” it read.

Affected areas include:
