Amanzimtoti SPCA bakkie stolen and recovered, again

Last year, the same bakkie was stolen and was later recovered damaged.

ON JULY 5, an SPCA bakkie was stolen at Berrio Park in Illovo Glen at around 03:25. Its tracking device was activated and when it was recovered an hour later, it had been severely damaged.

In a statement, the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) said that even though the bakkie was recovered relatively quickly, damage had been caused by the thieves as they stripped it looking for its tracking device.

In June 2023, the same SPCA bakkie was stolen from the same premises at dawn. After its tracker was activated, it was recovered in Mariannhill, severely stripped and damaged.

On July 4, a fully-laden truck with new tyres was hijacked at gunpoint in Isipingo by unknown men.
PT Alarms’ spokesperson, Dhevan Govindasamy, said the hijackers drove it to Umlazi with the loot.

“The tracking company was informed and the truck’s tracking device was activated. The vehicle was tracked to U section Umlazi,” said Govindasamy.

When the truck was recovered, it was abandoned and minus its cargo. “The responders are commended for continually striving to fight vehicle crime,” he said.
