Siyaphambili paddlers notch impressive times

The race consisted of a long as well as a short course.

UMGABABA-based Siyaphambili Surfski Club has congratulated its six members who took part in the gruelling Scottburgh to Brighton Sea and Sand Marathon on June 29.

The race was divided into two courses, with the 47km long course starting in Scottburgh and the 22km short course starting at the Amanzimtoti Main Beach. Both races finished at Brighton Beach on The Bluff. The Scottburgh to Brighton Sea and Sand Marathon is currently in its 66th year, having started in 1958.

Results:

Thubelihle Banda – K1 long course – 4:24:17.02 – 4th
Wandile Dube and Keelyn Tucker – K2 in the long course – 1st U18 and 9th overall
Kwanele Banda and Deidre Bentley  – K2 long course – 11th
Sboniso Dlamini – K1 short course – 2:23:00.26 – 1st U14 and 2nd overall.
Sibusiso Mngoma and Siphesihle Mngoma –  K2 short course – 1:35:35.35 – 1st overall and 1st U16

“Well done to all our members who took part in this iconic race,” said the club.
