Career expo benefits Umgababa and Magabheni learners

Hundreds of high school learners attended the Mnini Career Expo where they gained valuable insights into future career paths.

THE eighth annual Mnini Career Expo was held at Magabheni Community Hall for high school learners from schools in Umgababa.

Although all four high schools in the area were invited, only Esizibeni and Sidelile high schools managed to attend. The other two cited transport difficulties. The expo’s convenor, Mzawandile Ximba, said that about 500 Grade 11 and 12 learners benefited from the information shared by companies, which included Sappi, Prasa, Standard Bank, Protea Hotel and the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

“These learners are at the most important stage of their school career and have a choice regarding the tertiary path they want to take. The career expo exposes them to the various options they have to shape their future,” said Ximba.

He acknowledged the chief of the Mnini area in Umgababa for the support and motivation he has shown the learners.

“Joe Mkhize from the South African National Taxi Council has also provided valuable support, and we are very thankful for it,” he said.

The expo was also attended by former learner Uphile Shange, who was the best achiever in the district in the 2023 school year. He encouraged the learners to give themselves enough time to study so they can be better prepared when it is time for examinations.
