The gigantic ship was in Durban from May 8 to June 2 and was a boon to bookworms and ship lovers alike. The 15 learners were accompanied by the principal, Kevin Maiden, and teacher Trace Lee Turner.

“It was an informative and exciting outing. The learners bought books with their pocket money, and we also bought some for the school’s library. Logos Hope is an international ship sharing knowledge, help and hope with people worldwide through literature, cultural understanding, relief work and more,” said Trace Lee.

Grade Four learner Quillan Blamire said he enjoyed meeting people from other countries and browsing through items on sale.

“They showed us a video of all the places Logos Hope has been to. They had so many books, toys and pens from all over the world. It was hard to choose what to buy,” said Quillan.

It has a crew of more than 400 from over 60 different nationalities. Logos Hope has visited 150 ports in 82 countries, selling 11 million books to 10 million visitors onboard. The ship was last in South Africa in 2016, and it is currently sailing to Cape Town where it will dock for a few weeks.
