Clover Mama Afrika awards community worker from Amanzimtoti

It takes plenty of community involvement and hard work to be recognised in the Clover Mama Afrika awards.

COMMUNITY worker Feziwe Gambo was one of many ‘mamas’ recognised recently for their hard work and successes at the Clover Mama Afrika annual awards evening in Mossel Bay.

The project focuses on reminding the Mama Afrikas that each individual can rise above their circumstances by using their skills and other resources to create a vibrant, happy and meaningful life and existence.

Most importantly, the mamas must show growth in their projects, and skills transfers to community members is encouraged.

Publicist Simone Ferguson said, “The awards provide a platform for mamas to be recognised for this growth and development, for their increase in revenue, development in their skills and for community development.”

New awards were made possible by Eqstra Fleet Management, recognising Mama Afrika for the work they do at their centres as well as additional work they do on other projects of their own. There were four awards, with Gambo receiving the Special Recognition Award for all she does at her centre, House-Kids Centre in Ezimbokodweni, near Amanzimtoti.

Clover Mama Afrika’s Feziwe Gambo was awarded for her community work.

She was also one of four mamas recognised as ambassadors for 2024. Prof Elain Vlok, Clover manager of Clover Mama Afrika Trust, said, “They have been recognised as individuals who walk the extra mile and are known for all the good they are doing in their communities. An ambassador also needs to check various boxes, such as sending in her progress reports on time, sharing continuous photos and information about activities taking place at her centre, and must also look after her community by hosting training and upskilling sessions for them or arranging activities for the youth or elderly.”

Clover Mama Afrika is a sustainable corporate social investment project that started in 2001 and which has hosted 440 training sessions with over 2 313 beneficiaries over the years.
