Since March 20, power outages have plagued sections of Lotus Park, Orient Hills and Malukazi. Ward 90 councillor Shad Nowbuth said the initial outage on the 20th was a result of a trip-up in the power system. The following day, Lotus Park’s Phase 2 and Phase 3 experienced another outage, which Nowbuth reported to the superintendent in the eThekwini Municipality’s Electricity Department.
“He apologised for the outage and said his staff were having a busy day responding to outages that came before ours in Illovo, Amanzimtoti, Umbumbulu, Adams Mission and KwaMakhutha. He said available resources were stretched, and he scheduled us for the next day,” said Nowbuth.
On March 22, he said the Electricity Department deployed a patrolling team of switching officers who investigated and isolated the fault before starting the underground cable repairs. Power was restored the following day in the affected areas.
