Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics said on arrival, paramedics found that men who had been working on a construction site were trapped by the collapsed sand and could not free themselves.

“One of the men sustained critical injuries. Paramedics and firefighters worked to free them using spades and other tools. Once freed, one of the men went into a state of cardiac arrest, and paramedics attempted to resuscitate him, but after a lengthy process, the man was declared dead at the scene. He is believed to be about 30 years old,” said Jamieson.

The second man sustained minor injuries and refused further treatment. Jamieson added that the events leading up to the incident are unknown, and the police will be investigating further.
