Car stolen in Amanzimtoti recovered in Folweni

There has been an increase in the hijacking of delivery vehicles.

A TOYOTA Fortuner that was stolen in Amanzimtoti was recovered in Folweni recently after some sterling work done by different role-players.

In a statement, ET Rapid Response said that after the stolen vehicle’s description was broadcast to its tactical response team, they immediately sprang into action, checking the known hotspots in the surrounding townships.

“While searching in Folweni, our tactical response team managed to successfully recover the vehicle. It was then handed over to metro police and SAPS for further processing,” it said.

In another incident, a hijacked appliance-laden delivery truck was recovered in Folweni recently after it had been hijacked in the south of Durban. PT Alarms’ spokesperson, Dhevan Govindasamy, said the truck had been hijacked by five unknown men a day before.

“The truck was tracked and recovered in Folweni where it was found abandoned and empty. The appliances had been offloaded at an unknown location,” said Govindasamy. PT Alarms were assisted by Folweni SAPS and Bidtrack in the recovery.

Six days earlier, another truck, which had been hijacked in Adams Mission, was recovered in Folweni.

The Isuzu truck was making deliveries in Adams Mission when it was hijacked at gunpoint by unknown suspects. The truck also contained appliances.

“The truck was recovered, but the suspects fled into the nearby informal settlement. A few fridges were recovered,” he said.

In another incident, a Renault Duster belonging to the Department of Education, hijacked in Folweni recently, was recovered in uMlazi. Govindasamy said tracking teams searched in vain for the vehicle in the greater Malukazi area. After a few hours, the tracking device signalled again in T section, uMlazi. The vehicle was recovered abandoned.
