eThekwini strike causes schools to close [Video]

The municipal strike has had an enormous impact on communities, including children who haven't been able to attend school for the second day as eThekwini employees are not attending to electricity outages.

SOME schools have had to close as the eThekwini Municipality employees’ strike has negatively affected learning. Today (March 8), Ward 97 councillor André Beetge visited Sewula Primary School in eZimangweni outside Amanzimtoti, which has had to close because of having no electricity. Lower Illovo Primary also closed earlier this week because of sewage outfall which put the learners’ lives at risk. No city employees have been available to attend to these issues.

Burning barricades were also seen at Wanda Cele Road near Southgate, as well as in KwaMakhutha this morning as disgruntled residents demanded water and electricity be restored. Some of these communities have had no services for the past three weeks.
