Tourism businesses invited to enter Durban Tourism Awards

The aim of the awards is to encourage excellence, innovation and healthy competition within the local tourism sector.

DURBAN Tourism invites local tourism businesses to enter the third annual Durban Tourism Awards.

The Durban Tourism Business’ Awards is the brainchild of Durban Tourism which is the eThekwini Municipality’s marketing wing mandated to position the city as the destination of choice.

According to its website, “The awards trace their roots back to 2021. This year, they will be hosted for the third time with the core aim of encouraging excellence, innovation and healthy competition within the local tourism sector, thus positioning destination Durban utilising quality products.”

Winners and runners-up will be taking home cash prizes up to R50 000 per category, along with business development prizes.

Awards categories include, among others: accommodation, visitor experiences, tour operators, tourist guides, rickshaw pullers, crafters and event organisers and promoters.

Sapphire Coast Tourism’s Romy Wenzel encourages local [Amanzimtoti to Umkomaas] tourism products, entrepreneurs, crafts and so forth to enter and fly the Sapphire Coast Tourisms’ flag high. “Certain categories require CTO (community tourism organisation) membership. If you’re not a member yet, no need to worry as we are still open for new applicants,” she said.

Entries officially opened on November 20 and will close on February 23. An automated response will be sent via email to confirm a successful online entry.
