De Jager murder case: Suspect yet to take the stand

The suspect's arrest was the first time an arrest was made in the murder case since 2021.

BY 13:00 on November 27, the suspect in the Reverend Liezel de Jager murder case still had not made his way to the dock at the Amanzimtoti Magistrate’s Court as the prosecutors were still perusing his thick docket.

The SUN was told by a court staffer that there were more than 300 pages that the prosecutors had to go through.

The suspect, who cannot be named until he takes the stand, was arrested in Bloemfontein during the early hours of November 24. His arrest is in connection with the murder of Reverend de Jager who was found strangled in her yard in October 2021. The suspect’s arrest and pending court appearance was the first time an arrest was made in the case.

Handcuffed and shackled, the suspect with his head down, shuffled into the building under police guard and made his way to the court’s holding cells.
