Kingsway High’s environmental club celebrates Arbour Month

The learners will be planting 70 trees on campus and 70 in the community.

IN celebration of Arbour Month, Kingsway High School’s environmental club planted its first of 140 sponsored trees, the yellowwood tree.

The club’s chairperson, Sibonginkosi Wella, said Arbour Month was a time to reflect on the vital role of trees in people’s lives and the planet’s health.

“Our school has received an incredible gift of 70 trees each, from two generous sponsors, giving us a total of 140 trees. This gesture symbolises our dedication to a greener future,” he said.

The learners were reminded of the importance of trees, which provide shade, oxygen and beauty.

“These trees are more than just plants; they represent our commitment to a better world for generations to come. Our school’s 70th birthday is made memorable by planting 70 trees on campus and 70 in our community – a living legacy of our unity and growth,” said Sibonginkosi.

He said they are not only planting but also investing in a future where cleaner air and natural beauty prevail.

The school extended gratitude to its sponsors, Toyota Boshoku South Africa and former learner Shaun Callaghan.

“Kingsway, let’s nurture these trees as a testament to our dedication to a sustainable tomorrow. Together, we can leave a legacy that transcends time,” said Sibonginkosi.
