The competition saw 778 athletes from 42 different countries go toe to toe in Lake Malta. Wandile Dube and Senzo Ngcobo, both 16 years old, arrived in Poland on September 3 and returned on September 12. They competed in the K2 200m semi-final and came eighth, paddled in the K2 500m semi-final and placed ninth, and came eighth in the K2 1 000m B final.

Swelihle Ndlovu of the Siyaphambili Surfski Club said they were very proud of Wandile and Senzo’s achievements.

“They learned a lot during this trip, and they are going to put what they learnt to good use. Well done to them both,” said Swelihle.

Canoeing South Africa team manager Jodie Ellinor-Dreyer said the team did well, and she was very proud of each of the 12 paddlers in the team.

“Overall, I think it was a very successful tour for all the athletes. Each and every one of them worked tremendously hard, and they remained focused and gave their best,” said Ellinor-Dreyer.
