Help ‘bake’ a difference in the lives of cancer patients

Cupcakes of Hope assists 200 cancer patients each month by paying for some of their medical treatments and other day-to-day expenses.

CUPCAKES of Hope is calling on individuals to volunteer, bake or donate toward the National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer fundraiser at Galleria Mall this month.

The non-profit company and public benefit organisation’s mission is to raise awareness of childhood cancer and funds for those in need of medical and financial assistance.

Cupcakes 4 Kids with Cancer coordinator for Galleria Mall Shyanne Kanayee said this is predominantly done through their love of cupcakes.

“What sets us apart from other charities is that we ask our volunteers, also known as Cupcake Angels, to ‘bake’ a difference in the lives of our cancer warriors. The only requirement is that cupcakes must be made with love as it’s the sweetest way to save a life,” she said.

On average, the organisation assists 200 cancer patients each month by paying for some of their medical treatments and other day-to-day expenses like food, clothing and transport for hospital visits.

Kanayee said, “So we are always looking for new ways to raise funds. One of these is to approach companies and sponsors to appeal for a monetary donation.”

The organisation also holds several awareness and fundraising campaigns throughout the year.

For Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, it hosts South Africa’s National Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer, which is its main annual event. This year, it will be held on September 30.
