There is plenty to do in Durban and surrounds this weekend – out of the box and inside the box (dog box).

ARE you looking for something to do this weekend? Well, look no further; from markets to family fun days, art exhibitions and films, we have got you covered. Here’s a list of fun events happening this weekend in Durbs and surrounds.

Saturday, August 20

  • The North Durban Honorary Officers will host an open morning at the Beachwood Mangroves Nature Reserve. Gates open from 08:00 until 13:00. Everyone is welcome to walk through the reserve on guided or self-walks. There is a guided bird walk which leaves at 08:15 sharp. Bookings are essential through the Beachwood Mangroves Facebook page. There will also be refreshments available, and there will be a number of indigenous plants on sale on the day.
  • The SPCA sees more than 13 000 homeless animals through its doors each year. Book a spot at their kennels for the night, take videos/photos of your time there, and post them to your social media account with the hashtag #helpinghomelessanimals and tag @spcadbn. The cost for this fundraiser is R125 per human and R25 per dog. Ask your friends and family to sponsor your ‘adoption’ out of the kennels for R800. Visit www.spcadbn.org.za for more details.
  • The Sip and Paint Abstract Class takes place at @Define Art Gallery at noon.
    Enjoy a fun afternoon creating your very own painting-on-canvas masterpiece to take home, while sipping on delicious wines and indulging in a well-paired harvest table and tapas. Book your tickets via Howler: https://www.howler.co.za/SipPaintUMH
    The cost is R550 per person.
  • A guided 5km Geocache hunt takes place at Durban Beach Promenade where geocachers from around the world will be joining in an attempt to break the current record which has been standing since 2013. Bring your children along as they teach them Geocaching 101 and guide them on this seaside adventure. There will also be a number of secret exclusive one-day-only caches, and spot prizes will also be awarded along the way. Adventure kits with light snacks will be provided to all ticket holders. Sunday, August 21

  • The Vegan Country Food and Craft Market is the place to be for all things animal-friendly. The market takes place at Roseway Waldorf School from 10:00 to 14:00. Everyone is invited to a day out of eating delicious food, listening to awesome live music, and browsing interesting art, crafts, clothing and other stalls.
  • Join Oneness Yoga Studio for some outdoor yoga classes, followed by a hike in the Paradise Valley Nature Reserve. Classes are suitable for beginners. Bring your yoga mat, cap, towel and water. WhatsApp Nana at 076 905 8490. Class starts at 08:00. Book tickets here.
