After several years, as a result of an unreliable municipal water supply to the areas of Mgobhozini and Ehlanzeni, the communities expressed immense gratitude as they took possession of the borehole sunk for them. Costing R300 000 each, the boreholes use solar electricity to run, and they are equipped with two large-capacity elevated tanks to store water.

The trust’s chairperson, Nomusa Nkabinde, said on this project that the trust worked in partnership with the Inkosi Phathisizwe Luthuli, the Luthuli council and Shell. Shell operates the two Ultra City filling stations in Umgababa.

“It is a well-known fact that the people of this area have been without water for a long time. As we unveil this borehole here in Mgobhozini today, we thank Inkosi Luthuli for caring about his people because he is the one who started this trust in 2018,” said Nkabinde at the Mgobhozini handover.

She added that the main aim is for all five communities of Umgababa to each have a borehole to enable them to have access to clean water. The other three projects are currently ongoing. Inkosi Phathisizwe Luthuli asked the people to look after the boreholes and ensure their safety.
